At Fanatec, the concept behind the Round 1 V2 is crystal clear: to offer a round steering wheel with a realistic diameter that can cover most racing disciplines without specializing in any one in particular. The rim is inspired by 1980s Formula 1 steering wheels, a time when full-circle designs still reigned on the track. The result is a compact 270 mm diameter, similar to that of a classic road car, which lends itself equally well to GT, touring car, rally, and endurance racing. It’s the kind of rim designed to remain permanently mounted on the base rather than being reserved for a single category.

An aluminum rim with genuine leather

The Round 1 steering wheel features a polished and anodized aluminum frame, wrapped in genuine leather with a smooth finish. Fanatec lists the weight as 715 g for the steering wheel alone and approximately 1,420 g for the complete assembly with the hub. The smooth, relatively thin leather is a logical choice given the steering wheel’s versatile design: it facilitates quick rotations of the round rim, which are useful in rally driving or during overtaking maneuvers, where a very thick cover would hinder repeated handling. The circular shape and modest diameter reinforce the impression of a versatile, understated steering wheel, free of visual excess or “tuning” effects.

The Universal V2 Hub: A True Control Center

The highlight of this bundle is the ClubSport Universal Hub V2, which comes pre-installed. It features sixteen buttons integrated into the hub—four clusters of three buttons each with removable racing-style caps—and the seven-way FunkySwitch for navigating menus. A three-digit LED display, which can be mounted in two different positions, shows the current gear and compatible telemetry data. The hub is compatible with other Fanatec or third-party steering wheels thanks to 6 x 70 mm and 3 x 50 mm mounting patterns, and its electronics can be updated via firmware. A DataPort-C connector allows you to add the Podium Button Module Endurance.

Pre-installed magnetic paddles

The ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module comes pre-installed. The magnetically actuated shift paddles offer crisp engagement and a distinct tactile feedback, with that characteristic firm little click. Fanatec provides two sizes of paddle plates to adjust the reach according to the rim diameter and driving position. The paddles, button clusters, and FunkySwitch can also be removed to lighten the assembly, leaving plenty of room for customization.

Compatibility: PC, PlayStation, and base required

Something to check before purchasing: This model is compatible with PC and PlayStation, offering full support on PS5 and more limited functionality on PS4, depending on the game. It is not designed for Xbox; Fanatec sells a separate version of the Round 1 V2 for Xbox. Like all of the brand’s steering wheels, it does not work on its own: a compatible Fanatec base is required, and it is not included. The steering wheel is compatible with the Podium DD1 and DD2, ClubSport V2 and V2.5, CSL Elite, CSL DD, and Gran Turismo DD Pro bases. The QR2 quick-release mount on the steering wheel side is included.
