Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel F1 Esports V2: My quick review
The ClubSport F1 Esports V2 is Fanatec’s single-seater-style steering wheel, designed for F1 and modern GT racing. A compact 270 mm rim, a machined aluminum plate, Alcantara grips, and magnetic paddles combine to create a compact and precise package. It requires a Fanatec base and works on PC and PlayStation, but not on Xbox. A no-frills steering wheel that gets right to the point.

A steering wheel designed for a single-seater
The moment you pick it up, the ClubSport F1 Esports V2 sets the tone. Its compact 270-mm rim and streamlined shape immediately bring you closer to the feel of a real F1 steering wheel. Nothing sticks out; nothing feels loose. It turns quickly and sharply, and this tight geometry provides a sense of direct connection with the car—a feel that’s perfectly suited to modern single-seaters and GTs. This is a steering wheel that embraces its focus: racing above all else.
Craftsmanship that exudes professionalism
The CNC-machined, anodized aluminum front plate mounted on a metal frame provides a reassuringly solid feel, with no unwanted play. You can immediately feel the leap forward compared to the previous generation: the electronics have been redesigned, and most importantly, Fanatec has installed true adjustable magnetic paddles, in the spirit of the Formula V2.5. The finish is clean, the structure is rigid, and the Alcantara on the grips provides that slightly velvety feel that makes all the difference during long sessions. Weighing in at nearly 1.2 kg, it has the heft of a high-end product.
Here's what it looks like on the track
In the single-seater, the small steering wheel does exactly what you’d expect it to. Course corrections when entering a turn are crisp, countersteering is quicker to execute, and you never have to struggle with a steering wheel that’s too wide. The magnetic shift paddles click with a crisp, consistent sound that makes shifting gears a pleasure lap after lap. The eleven buttons and the clickable joystick fall naturally under your fingers, allowing you to manage a start or a acceleration without taking your eyes off the rim. During long stints, the Alcantara remains comfortable and doesn’t get slippery—a real plus when concentration is high toward the end of the race.
The FunkySwitch and LEDs at the Heart of the Action
The brand’s signature 7-position FunkySwitch is the tool you’ll use nonstop: four directions, a push button, and a rotary knob let you adjust engine mapping, the differential, or brake bias while driving in a straight line—all without taking your hands off the steering wheel. Above it, the bar of nine multicolored RevLEDs indicates the gearshift point, while the two blocks of FlagLEDs signal wheel spin, flags, and the rev limiter. The blue screen displays speed and current gear, and the two vibration motors built into the handles provide useful feedback. Everything is configurable via FanaLab, which gives you plenty of freedom to customize the display for each game.
A ticket to the world of Fanatec
One thing to keep in mind before you buy: it’s just a rim. You absolutely need a Fanatec base to make it work, and the wheel connects via the QR2 quick-release mechanism on the wheel side. As for platforms, it works fully on PC, and when paired with a PlayStation-compatible base like the Gran Turismo DD Pro or a ClubSport DD, it also works on PS4 and PS5. However, it’s not compatible with Xbox—this is a major dealbreaker to check before buying. For those already part of the Fanatec ecosystem, however, it integrates seamlessly and can even be upgraded later with an advanced paddle shifter module featuring dual clutches.
Our Opinion
The ClubSport F1 Esports V2 doesn’t try to do everything—it does one thing well: offer a solid, precise, and comfortable single-seater steering wheel at an affordable price. Impeccable build quality, impressive magnetic paddles, and well-designed features make it a top choice for anyone racing in F1 or GT—provided you’re already set up with Fanatec gear and don’t play on Xbox.
