A steering wheel that's just as much a showpiece as it is a track performer

Some steering wheels are simply good. The Podium Bentley GT3, on the other hand, aims to impress the moment you take it out of the box. Fanatec developed it in collaboration with Bentley Motors, and the model features the same rim found on the Continental GT3 that competed at Pikes Peak. The result is a piece that feels like a collector’s item, complete with its included aluminum stand for display in a showcase. But behind the showy presentation lies a thoroughly serious racing wheel.

The round screen that stays upright in turns

The visual signature is this 3.4-inch circular screen (800 x 800 px) mounted in the center. What makes it unique is that it automatically levels itself thanks to a built-in processor, so it stays horizontal as the rim rotates. In practice, this keeps the telemetry data readable even under full throttle, which is helpful during long stints when you need to monitor temperature and delta without breaking your line. When connected via USB to its mount, it also plays back onboard footage or displays a clock inspired by the Continental clock. A handy gadget for racing, and a nice decorative piece.

Game Controllers and Peripherals: Where the Price Is Worth It

It’s in the controls where the Bentley really shines. The magnetic shift paddles with Hall sensors click with rare precision—among the best we’ve ever felt—making every downshift crisp and precise when entering a turn. Added to this are two analog clutch paddles, eight tactile snap-dome buttons, two 7-way FunkySwitches, two aluminum dials with optical encoders—ideal for adjusting brake bias on the fly—and four CNC-machined rotary controls with Bentley’s signature notches that are slightly stiffer to turn. Everything is within easy reach of your thumb without having to let go of the steering wheel.

Forged carbon fiber, magnesium, and Alcantara

The construction exudes quality. It features a 5-mm carbon fiber plate with Bentley green weave, a magnesium core, a forged carbon fiber screen surround, and Alcantara-wrapped grips on a 310-mm diameter. Nothing sounds hollow, and nothing moves when you apply a bit of force to the rim. A few plastic elements around the buttons hint at its premium positioning, without detracting from the overall impression of density and solidity. The included Pikes Peak grip offers an alternative low grip position depending on your riding style.

How it changes things behind the wheel

Over time, it’s the rigidity and grip that really stand out. The Alcantara provides solid grip and precise force feedback, and together these elements give an already solid setup a more professional and consistent feel. During long endurance sessions, its relative lightness (around 1.9 kg) and ergonomic design help reduce fatigue, and the paddle shifters remain consistently responsive. However, the Alcantara does require a bit of maintenance to prevent it from becoming shiny.

On what basis, and on what platform

An important point to note before purchasing: this steering wheel only works with a Fanatec base, via its pre-installed QR2 Pro quick-release mount. It is compatible with CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD and DD+, Podium DD1, DD1 PS4, and DD2. As for platforms, it works with PC and PlayStation (with a licensed PlayStation base). It is not compatible with Xbox—be sure to check compatibility based on your console. This limitation to the Fanatec ecosystem is the downside of such a well-designed piece of hardware.
